Music
At Lytham Church of England Primary School we aim for our music curriculum to inspire and engage children, allowing them the opportunity to use their creativity through the skills of composing and performing.
We aim to give them the opportunity to listen and appreciate a variety of styles of music, give them the vocabulary to describe what they hear and develop personal preferences to take with them on their musical learning journey. We want children to love music and see how it can be a soundtrack to their own life experiences.
Children will use their own voices, untuned and tuned instruments to compose their own music based on the structure and elements of the music they are exposed to. They will learn about music from other countries and cultures and see how real life influences musical culture.
“The sheer joy of music making can feed the soul of a school community, enriching each student while strengthening the shared bonds of support and trust which make a great school.” (Model Music Curriculum, March 2021.)
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure that knowledge, skills and vocabulary are built upon and embedded throughout the child’s time at Lytham Church of England Primary School.
Children will be able to perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians.
Children will sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence.
The children will understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.
Our music curriculum is designed for and is accessible to all children.
Mrs Taylor is our Music lead.
